K-BIAN's Lishe Bora Fortified Instant Porridge School Feeding Programme is designed to improve enrolment, retention, completion and transition rates by promoting balanced nutrition, alongside instilling environmental conservation awareness among learners and households.
The porridge
The Fortified Delicious, Nutritious and Tasty instant porridge flour is a pre-cooked blend of whole maize, soya, sorghum and sweet potato, delicately balanced through extrusion and fortified with fifteen (15) micro nutrients. Fortified instant porridge of this kind offers several advantages for nutritional intake, and can significantly boost the intake of essential nutrients like iron and zinc, potentially reducing deficiencies and improving overall health.
Linking farmers to markets
The programme is designed to prioritise linking the fortified flour processor to locally sourced food, reducing reliance on imported goods and supporting local farmers through aggregation for economies of scale, creating economic opportunities for local farmers, vendors and other stakeholders involved in food production, transportation and distribution. Overall, this will improve smallholder farmers' access to stable markets.
